Lauren Cox

At UNRIVALED, we introduce sports fans to the pro athletes they haven’t heard enough about. You’ll hear from rising and overshadowed athletes who share their journey to becoming pros and their unique passions outside of their sport.

This Inside the Jersey features Lauren Cox, the #3 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever. She’s a role model – not just for her skills on the court, but also for the awareness she’s brought to those dealing with Type 1 Diabetes. The disease is part of the story she shares on the UNRIVALED podcast.

Check out the Q&A with Lauren and don’t forget to listen to the podcast:

UNRIVALED: What’s the movie you’ll never get tired of watching?

Lauren: “The Lion King.”

UNRIVALED: What’s the movie role you wish you would be cast for?

Lauren: I think “Guardians of the Galaxy,” because I like the action movies that have a little bit of comedy in them. I think that would be fun.

UNRIVALED: What’s the vacation spot you can’t wait to revisit?

Lauren: I want to go back to Spain. I went there with USA Basketball and it was really nice and really pretty, but that was kind of a business trip. I want to go back, vacation and see all the sites.

UNRIVALED: What’s the home-cooked meal you request most often?

Lauren: It’s a cheesy potato casserole recipe. We call them Mimi’s potatoes because Mimi, my dad’s mom, gave us the recipe.

UNRIVALED: When you’re in charge of cooking dinner, what’s your go-to meal to make?

Lauren: Pasta because it’s simple and you can’t really mess it up, so that’s my go-to.

UNRIVALED: What is the snack you can’t get enough of?

Lauren: Flavor Blasted Goldfish. Not just the regular ones. They have to be the Flavor Blasted ones.

UNRIVALED: What player did you pretend to be in the backyard or playing pickup ball with your friends?

Lauren: LeBron James because he does a little bit of everything.

UNRIVALED: What is the oddest thing that has led to a competition between you and your sisters?

Lauren: Everything is a competition with us. Most recently it was a game of UNO that got pretty heated.

UNRIVALED: What happens in a heated game of UNO?

Lauren: There’s some card throwing. There’s some yelling at each other, some name calling, but it’s all fun and games.

UNRIVALED: What’s the story behind why you wear #15?

Lauren: This is kind of embarrassing. I was in elementary school and the boy I had a crush on wore #15. I can’t even tell you who it was because it was so long ago, but it just kind of stuck with me and I kept wearing it.

UNRIVALED: What made you choose Baylor for college?

Lauren: I took my visit to Baylor and it just really felt good. It was a family environment, I got along with the team and the coaches and it just felt right for me.

UNRIVALED: If you weren’t a professional athlete, what career field would we find you in?

Lauren: I would say something that has to do with sports, maybe sports broadcasting. I just want to stay around the sports world, once I’m done playing.

UNRIVALED: What is the product or service that has changed your life at home?

Lauren: I would say the Medtronic continuous glucose monitor that I use for my diabetes. The technology that they’ve come out with has been lifesaving and makes things a whole lot easier.
